Al Shamal (Arabic: الشمال) is the capital city of the municipality of Madinat ash Shamal in Qatar. It was delimited in 1988 and shares its boundaries with Ar Ru'ays to the east and Abu Dhalouf to the west.
The city's first public library was opened in 1979.
