Acheta is a genus of field crickets. It most notably contains the house cricket Acheta domestica. According to the Code of Zoological Nomenclature, this generic name is feminine in gender. For this reason, the specific names (epithets) must agree in gender with the generic name, and therefore be written in the feminine gender.
