Abel Lake is a small lake in the Westland region of the South Island of New Zealand. It is located in the Southern Alps, 35 kilometres (22 mi) east of Franz Josef and is fed by the Abel Glacier. A short stream links the lake with the Perth River. The lake has recently dried up (as of May 2017) and looks to have either been displaced with alluvial / glacial rock or the outlet has been lowered by natural erosion or been lowered manually by gold prospectors.
