Abdul Shafee

Abdul Shafee (23 November 1925 – 26 April 2004) was a Senior Awarded Indian Politician of Indian National Congress party, Member of Parliament (MP) Loksabha & Member of Legislative Council (MLC) of Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha India. Abdul Shafee was a member of the 5th Lok Sabha and represented the Chandrapur (formally known as Chanda constituency of India. Shafee was also the First Zilla Parishad President of Chandrapur, and was the First Sarpanch of Rajoli Gram panchayat , He was a Senior Politician of the Indian National Congress .

Abdul Shafee was born in Bhandara, in the state of Maharashtra. Shafee was a rich agriculturist and businessman before joining politics.

Social activities.— Helping the poor and needy; established several educational institutions; was head of Bharat Sevak Samaj, Chandrapur District; started social work in village Rajoli and was awarded First Prize by the Government of Maharashtra in making village Rajoli an ideal one; during 1962 Chinese aggression on India, collected maximum gold in the whole of India; awarded gold medal for implementing Family Planning programmes in Chandrapur District.

Then was elected as Zilla Parishad president, Where he chaired for continues ten years...Worked closely with then PM Indira Gandhi as Member of Parliament & AICC working committee. Gave his expertise to Sharad Pawar as an MLC in Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha . During the Indo China war in 1962 Chandrapur district in Maharashtra donated gold to the actual weight of then PM Jawaharlal Nehru 74 kgs of gold to Indian Government. He was a strong Congress leader, co-operative leader, social activist . He was popularly known as Leader of Common People. He advocated social democracy in his speeches and was instrumental in establishing co-operatives in Maharashtra for the betterment of the farmers.
