Aanandam (English: Joy) is a 2016 Indian Malayalam romantic comedy film written and directed by Ganesh Raj in his directorial debut.Vineeth Sreenivasan produces the film under the banner of Habit Of Life with Vinod Shornur under Cast N Crew.
The film features Arun Kurian, Thomas Mathew, Siddhi Mahajankatti, Roshan Mathew, Annu Antony, Vishak Nair and Anarkali Marikar in the lead roles. Shooting locations were at Goa, Hampi, Kochi, Mysore, and in Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kanjirappally, Kottayam. It was released in theatres on 21 October 2016.
Anandam received generalily positive reviews and completed 100 days of run even after experimenting 7 newcomers and a debut venture for director Ganesh raj and Vineeth srinivasan as producer . Works of Arun kurian as Varun , Roshan mathew as Gautham , along with the director's potential and more fulfillment of cast and crew were appreciated by critics even after remarking their debut except for Roshan whose its third film .
The film explores the personality changes of seven friends namely Varun,Akshay,Gautham and kuppi due to a trip along with their lady loves where severity of love explores more in Akshay's and Gautham's life . Akshay too has a lot to express his truth about overcoming fears which him at last tells to Dia who changes him while Gautham's fear to tell his mind about his music fantasy to his love is deviated .But , Kuppi proves his love for his friends several times although he has a joyful character which grounds of his happy friends ,while Varun undergoes various changes evolving love ,acceptance , rejection although he potrayes a character of friends loving group but is cold minded after a rejection from Dia and disowns himself into a no nonsense man but unusually , he is person who helps his friend (Akshay) to achieve the heart of his proposal Dia (who loves Dia without knowing that Varun had proposed him and Dia had rejected him ) however he can , which makes his character multi shaded and interesting throughout making him different from other leads formally .But Varun is later a little changed after the IV. Darshana too is a changed character as her love for friends are not expressed through words but through sketches paying justice to all her friends' love .
The story revolves around the group of seven friends who embark on their first IV tour (Industrial Visit) of their college life and how it affects small to large changes in their mellow lives. “Rockstar” Gautham , Kuppi (K. Unnikrishnan Pillai), Devika (aka Devooty), Dia, Darshana, Varun and Akshay, along with a group of 33 classmates and two faculty members (Chacko sir and Lovely miss) travel to Hampi via Mysuru and then to Goa for the New Year’s Eve.
