New Jersey's 35th Legislative District is one of 40 districts that make up the map for the New Jersey Legislature. It encompasses the Bergen County municipalities of Elmwood Park and Garfield and the Passaic County municipalities of Haledon, North Haledon, Paterson, and Prospect Park.
As of the 2010 United States Census, the district had a population of 209,995, of whom 153,921 (73.3%) were of voting age. The racial makeup of the district was 102,588 (48.9%) White, 49,439 (23.5%) African American, 1,742 (0.8%) Native American, 8,136 (3.9%) Asian, 77 (0.0%) Pacific Islander, 38,730 (18.4%) from some other race, and 9,283 (4.4%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 93,371 (45.9%) of the population.
The district had 124,333 registered voters as of December 31, 2016[update], of whom 56,895 (45.8%) were registered as unaffiliated, 55,709 (44.8%) were registered as Democrats, 11,221 (9.0%) were registered as Republicans and 508 (0.4%) were registered to other parties.
