New Jersey's 31st Legislative District is one of 40 districts that make up the map for the New Jersey Legislature. It covers the Hudson County municipalities of Bayonne and most of Jersey City.
As of the 2010 United States Census, the district had a population of 214,973, of whom 167,134 (77.7%) were of voting age. The racial makeup of the district was 85,308 (39.7%) White, 59,683 (27.8%) African American, 882 (0.4%) Native American, 36,582 (17.0%) Asian, 104 (0.0%) Pacific Islander, 23,557 (11.0%) from some other race, and 8,857 (4.1%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 52,041 (24.2%) of the population.
The district had 125,861 registered voters as of November 30, 2017[update], of whom 47,209 (37.5%) were registered as unaffiliated, 67,659 (53.8%) were registered as Democrats, 9,841 (7.8%) were registered as Republicans, and 1,152 (0.9%) were registered to other parties.
The district is represented for the 2018–2019 Legislative Session (Senate, General Assembly) in the State Senate by Sandra Bolden Cunningham (D, Jersey City) and in the General Assembly by Nicholas Chiaravalloti (D, Bayonne) and Angela V. McKnight (D, Jersey City).
