The 2022 Summer Youth Olympics will be the fourth edition of the Summer Youth Olympic Games, an international sports, education and cultural festival for teenagers, in a city designated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Originally scheduled to be held in 2022, at the 127th IOC Session it was decided to move the organisation of the YOG to a non-Olympic year, starting with the 4th Summer Youth Olympic Games, to be postponed from 2022 to 2023. The IOC is actively seeking a host city for the event.
Subsequently the IOC have reverted to a 2022 date, and announced in February 2018 that they will be recommending that the event be held in Africa. The 132nd IOC Session confirmed the change of date back to 2022. The host will be announced at the 133rd IOC Session In Buenos Aires, Argentina right before the 2018 edition.
The IOC revealed the 2022 Summer Youth Olympics bid process on 29 March 2018.
The following three cities have been participating in the preparation stage and joined the briefings via videoconference/conference call .
On 6 February 2018, Senegal declared its interest to host these games. Senegal’s Olympic and Sport Committee President Mamadou Ndiaye said that “we have recently renovated or built a lot of sports facilities and infrastructure.”
After hosting the 2014 African Youth Games at the capital and largest city of Botswana, the country's National Olympic Committee has in mind to bid for other competitions such as the African Championships in Athletics, African Swimming Championships and the 2023 Summer Youth Olympics.Lassana Palenfo, president of ANOCA, has suggested a joint-African bid that includes South Africa, Botswana and Angola. In february, 2018 IOC President Thomas Bach stated that the Executive Board "wants the Summer Youth Olympic Games 2022 to take place in Africa" and that it has been decided to propose African continent a strong priority for the host.
