The 2018 New England Patriots season is the franchise's 49th season in the National Football League, the 59th overall and the 19th under head coach Bill Belichick. The Patriots enter the season as two time defending AFC champions, and will attempt to become only the third team in NFL history to appear in three consecutive Super Bowls (after the 1971–73 Miami Dolphins and 1990–93 Buffalo Bills).

Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was announced as being hired as the new Indianapolis Colts' head coach. McDaniels abruptly rejected the offer citing personal reasons, deciding to stay a part of the Patriots' organization. The controversy surrounding this decision led McDaniels's then-agent, Bob LaMonte to terminate their professional relationship.

Defensive coordinator Matt Patricia was hired to serve as the head coach of the Detroit Lions.
