The 2016–17 Regionalliga is the ninth season of the Regionalliga, the fifth under the new format, as the fourth tier of the German football league system.
The season started on 31 July 2016.Lupo Martini Wolfsburg was promoted from the 2015–16 Niedersachsenliga, so were 2015–16 Schleswig-Holstein-Liga champions SV Eichede and 2015–16 Niedersachsenliga runners-up 1. FC Germania Egestorf/Langreder as promotion round runners-up.
The season started on 31 July 2016. The fixtures were published on 29 June 2016.FC Energie Cottbus was relegated from the 2015–16 3. Liga.1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig was promoted from the NOFV-Oberliga Süd and FSV Union Fürstenwalde was promoted from the NOFV-Oberliga Nord.
