Champion | Novak Djokovic |
Runner-up | Roger Federer |
Final score | 6–4, 5–7, 6–4, 6–4 |
Marin Čilić was the defending champion, but lost to Novak Djokovic in the semifinals.
Djokovic went on to win the title, defeating Roger Federer in the final, 6–4, 5–7, 6–4, 6–4. By reaching the final, Djokovic became the third man to reach all four major Grand Slam finals in the same year in the Open Era after Rod Laver and Federer. Earlier that year, he won the Australian Open and Wimbledon and lost to Stan Wawrinka at Roland Garros.
This was the first time since the 2010 US Open that Andy Murray was beaten before the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament, losing to Kevin Anderson in the fourth round. Ending a streak of 18 consecutive Grand Slam quarter-finals (he missed the 2013 French Open due to injury). This was also the last Grand Slam tournament for former top ten player Mardy Fish.
