The 2015–16 season was Football Club Internazionale Milano's 84th consecutive season in the top-flight of Italian football. Having finished eighth the previous season, Inter has competed only in domestic competition, in Serie A and the Coppa Italia.

Despite the eighth-place finish in 2014–15 season, would not be useful to compete into European competitions, Inter had still taken a chance: however it fails too, due to UEFA decision about Sampdoria's fact concerning licence. Some notable purchases are Ljajić and Jovetić, who scores 3 goals in first 2 games giving Inter a total of 6 points. In late September, after league stop, the side has collected 3 other wins reaching 15 points. The first loss has came against Fiorentina who, in matchday 6, has won 1–4 in Milan. In following weeks, Inter obtains 3 draws and such other wins retaining first place also in November. On December 15, Inter celebrates a year of goals scored by only foreign players. They top during Christmas break too, as 1–2 defeat against Lazio is not heavy.

In matchday 19, Inter is beaten at home by Sassuolo (which gets the first win over "nerazzurri" in Serie A) leaving mid-season title to Napoli. The beginning of second half marks a down-trending, as the side collects just 9 points in 8 games. In add to this, Mancini's team is knocked out in Coppa Italia by Juventus: against Italian champions, a 3–0 comeback in return match is not enough as "bianconeri" win by shoot-out. In remaining matches of league, Inter wastes a notable amount of points but also manages to get a fourth place that qualifies the side for Europa League group stage.
