The Men's singles tournament of this event started in the week of March 8. It was the year's first of nine tournaments in the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 series.

Rafael Nadal was the defending champion, but he lost to Ivan Ljubičić in the semifinals.

After taking out Nadal in the semis, Ivan Ljubičić defeated Andy Roddick in the final 7–6(7–3), 7–6(7–5). It was Ljubičić's first win in a Masters 1000 final, in his fourth final, making him the oldest first-time winner of a Masters event. It was his first title of the 2010 season.
