They made the playoffs after finishing fourth in the NBA Southwest Division. The Grizzlies lost all four of their playoff games against the Phoenix Suns. They ended the season 45–37.
In late November, Hubie Brown retired from coaching due to "unexpected health problems". He was later replaced by TNT analyst Mike Fratello.
