1998 FIA GT Championship

The 1998 FIA GT Championship was a motor racing competition for Grand Touring style cars competing in two categories, GT1 and GT2, based on power and manufacturer involvement. It was the second FIA GT Championship. The championship began on 12 April 1998 and ended on 25 October 1998 after ten races.

The GT1 Drivers Championship was won by Klaus Ludwig and Ricardo Zonta with the GT2 title awarded to Olivier Beretta and Pedro Lamy. The GT1 Teams Championship was won by AMG Mercedes and the GT2 award by Viper Team Oreca.

Championship points for each title in each category were awarded on a 10-6-4-3-2-1 basis for the first six places in each race.

A driver was eligible to score points if he had completed at least 20% of the total distance achieved by his vehicle.

Results from all races were counted towards the Drivers titles in both GT1 and GT2.

Results from no more than two cars per team per race were counted towards the Teams titles in both GT1 and GT2.

The GT1 Drivers Championship was won by Klaus Ludwig and Ricardo Zonta driving Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR and Mercedes-Benz CLK-LM for AMG Mercedes.

The GT2 Drivers Championship was won by Olivier Beretta and Pedro Lamy driving a Chrysler Viper GTS-R for Viper Team Oreca.
