The 1994 season was the most successful under McBride's tenure at Utah, with the team going 10–2, beating three ranked teams including a 16–13 win over 15th ranked Arizona at the Freedom Bowl, finishing the season ranked 10th in the AP Poll and 8th in the Coaches Poll.

Four players went in the 1995 NFL Draft, including first rounder and future pro bowler Luther Elliss.
