The 1992 Davis Cup was the 81st edition of the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. Due to increased entries, the tournament was expanded to add a Group III in all zones, with promotion and relegation between it and Group II. A total of 92 nations participated in the tournament. In the final, the United States defeated Switzerland at the Tarrant County Center in Fort Worth, Texas, United States, on 4–6 December.
First round losers play along with Zonal Group I qualifiers in World Group Qualifying Round.
Date: 25–27 September
‡Yugoslavia was barred from competing as part of the international reaction to events in the Bosnian War.
Group III consisted of two round-robin groups of four teams each. The top team from each pool was promoted to Group II for the following year. All matches were played March 20-22 in San Salvador, El Salvador, on outdoor clay courts. Each tie consisted of two singles rubbers and one doubles rubber, while each rubber was best-of-three sets. This became the standard format for the lower tiers of Davis Cup play (that is, Groups III and IV in all three zones), except that groups of eight or more would normally be divided into two separate round-robin pools.
The Group III tournament was held April 20 - 26, in Manama, Bahrain, on outdoor hard courts.
The seven teams played a Round-robin tournament.
The Group III tournament was held April 29 - May 3, in Tunis, Tunisia, on outdoor clay courts.
The six teams played a Round-robin tournament.
‡Cameroon would withdraw from the tournament in 1993, and so Tunisia were promoted in their place. Cameroon returned to Group III in 1994.
