Björn Borg was the two-time defending champion of the Men's Singles event at the French Open tennis tournament. Seeded first he successfully defended his title at the 1980 French Open, defeating Vitas Gerulaitis 6–4, 6–1, 6–2 in the final to win his fifth French title after 1974, 1975, 1978 and 1979. Borg went through the entire tournament, which featured 17 of the top 20 players, without dropping a set; this would not be achieved by a man again until Roger Federer at the 2007 Australian Open.

The seeded players are listed below. Björn Borg is the champion; others show the round in which they were eliminated.
