Brian Gottfried and Raúl Ramírez were the defending champions and first seeds, but they lost to Jim Delaney and Sashi Menon in the first round.
In an all-Australian final, Ross Case and Geoff Masters, the previous year's finalists and seventh seeds, won the title by defeating unseeded John Alexander and Phil Dent, 6–3, 6–4, 3–6, 8–9, 6–4. This was Ross and Masters' second Men's Doubles Grand Slam title (after the 1974 Australian Open), and also their last.
