The 1977–78 Northern Premier League season was the tenth in the history of the Northern Premier League, a football competition in England.

In the tenth season of the Northern Premier League 2nd placed Wigan Athletic applied for election to the Football League and succeeded, joining Football League Division Four; they replaced Southport, who swapped leagues with them. No sides were relegated, but Great Harwood left the League at the end of the season.
