Björn Borg defeated Ilie Năstase 6–4, 6–2, 9–7 in the final to win the Gentlemen's Singles tennis title at the 1976 Wimbledon Championships. He was the first man in the Open Era to win a Wimbledon singles title without dropping a set and the first to do it in two different slams (French Open and Wimbledon).

The seeded players are listed below. Björn Borg is the champion; others show the round in which they were eliminated.

The number 11 and 15 seeds withdrew because of injury. Their places in the draw were taken by Lucky Losers JK Holladay (USA) and Milan Holeček (Stateless) respectively.
