1970 FIFA World Cup qualification (CAF)

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) section of the 1970 FIFA World Cup qualification saw teams competing for one berth in the final tournament in Mexico.

Thirteen nations in total entered the qualifying stage but FIFA rejected the entries of Guinea and Zaire, leaving 11 nations to contest the qualifying spot.

There would be three rounds of play:

Sudan 6–6 Zambia on aggregate. Sudan advanced to the Second Round having scored more goals in the second match..

Senegal 2–2 Morocco on aggregate. A play-off on neutral ground was played to decide who would advance to the Second Round.

Morocco advanced to the Second Round, via the play-off.

Tunisia won 2–1 on aggregate and advanced to the Second Round.

Nigeria won 4–3 on aggregate and advanced to the Second Round.

Ethiopia won 5–3 on aggregate and advanced to the Second Round.

Morocco 0–0 Tunisia on aggregate. A play-off on neutral ground was played to decide who would advance to the Final Round.

Morocco advanced to the Final Round, by winning a coin toss. This was the first time in history that an unbeaten team was unable to qualify to the World Cup.

Sudan won 4–2 on aggregate and advanced to the Final Round.

Nigeria won 3–2 on aggregate and advanced to the Final Round.
