The 1942 San Francisco State Gaters football team represented San Francisco State College during the 1942 college football season.

During played a limited schedule during 1942 as a result of World War II. For the first four games of the season they were coached by Ray Kaufman. When he was called into the military, Dan Farmer took over the team. They played home games at a new stadium in San Francisco, California, which was later named Cox Stadium. The Gaters finished with a record of zero wins and six losses (0–6) and were outscored by their opponents 12–156. San Francisco State would not field another team until 1945.
