The 1942 Cal Poly Mustangs football team represented California Polytechnic School during the 1942 college football season. They continued as an independent until the 1946 season.

The team was led by first-year head coach Bob Dakan (in his only year as head coach) and played home games at Mustang Stadium in San Luis Obispo, California. They finished the season with a record of four wins and three losses (4–3). Overall, the Mustangs outscored their opponents 179–105 for the season.

Due to World War II, Cal Poly would not field another team until 1945.
