Freshen Up


Freshen Up is a chewing gum with flavored gels inside manufactured by Cadbury Adams in Brazil. Current flavours include cinnamon, peppermint, spearmint and bubble gum. A fruit variation was offered in the 1970s.

The product was launched in 1975.

In 1976 an explosion of the Freshen Up gum manufacturing line at the American Chicle factory in Queens, New York killed six workers. The New York State Supreme Court justice in Queens dismissed the manslaughter and homicide charges against the Warner-Lambert Company and the four executives the following year.

Halls (cough drop)

Halls is the brand name of a popular mentholated cough drop. Halls cough drops (categorized as a cough suppressant/oral anaesthetic by the manufacturer) are sold by the Cadbury-Adams Division of Cadbury, now owned by Mondelēz International, and have long been advertised as featuring "Vapor Action". Halls was first made in the 1930s in Stanley Road, Whitefield, Lancashire, United Kingdom by the Halls Brothers company (founded 1893). Halls Brothers was acquired by Warner-Lambert in 1964. Production in Whitefield ceased in the late 1980s. When Pfizer acquired Warner-Lambert in 2000, the Halls brand came with the entire Adams portfolio (which included Trident gum, Dentyne, Chiclets and Freshen Up, among others). Two years later, Adams was bought out by Cadbury, who were subsequently purchased by Kraft foods, which was later restructured and renamed Mondelēz International - as of 2015, Mondelēz International owns the Halls brand worldwide.

The following Halls varieties are listed on Cadbury's UK web site.

The "Soothers" varieties do not list menthol on their ingredients and their packaging does not describe them as a medicine or specify any dosage instructions, but supermarkets frequently categorise them as common cold treatment.

The menthol ingredient acts as local anesthetic and "creates a cooling sensation". Also acts as a cough suppressant.

The Halls Defense line consists of flavorings containing Vitamin C but do not contain menthol and suppress coughs.

Halls Fruit Breezers, launched as a non-mentholated lozenge, comes in many flavors such as: Cool Berry, Cool Creamy Orange, Cool Creamy Strawberry, Tropical Chill, and Cool Citrus Blend.

Malabar (chewing gum)

Malabar is a trademark French brand of chewing gum, launched in 1958 by Kréma. It is now owned by Mondelēz International.

Famous for their long-running series of advertisements they first launched in 1958, it was not until 1969 that the now famous blond man wearing a yellow jersey on his chest and wearing an M surrounded by a red oval came to represent the brand. The figure, created by the designer Jean-Claude Poirier, is no longer the central part of the advertisements but is still present on the packaging of the gum.

Sour Patch Kids


Sour Patch Kids are a soft candy with a coating of invert sugar and sour sugar (a combination of citric acid, tartaric acid and sugar). Its slogan, "Sour. Sweet. Gone.", refers to the sour-to-sweet taste of the candy.

Sour Patch Kids were originally created by Lainey Purser Ran By Kids Factory, under the name of Mars Men. In the late 1970s Cadbury and the Malaco Licorice Company of Sweden formed the Allen Candy Company in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, in order to produce them. In 1985, they were renamed to Sour Patch Kids, likely to capitalize on the popularity of Cabbage Patch Kids.

Stimorol


Stimorol is a brand of chewing gum, produced by the Danish company Gumlink (former Dandy). It is based in Vejle, Denmark. It is one of the world's largest producers of chewing gum.

"Stimorol" is its primary brand of gum, which came onto the market in 1956. It was initially sold only in Scandinavia, but later became available in other countries throughout Europe, beginning with the Netherlands in 1959. In 1978, the company introduced a sugar-free gum, and by the 1990s it had various fruit and mint flavors. In 2002, the company was acquired by Cadbury-Schweppes.

Stride (gum)


Stride is a brand of chewing gum created by Cadbury (owned by Mondelēz International). Its packs usually consist of 14 pieces of gum. Founded on January 2008

There are 20 flavors in total.

A new line of Stride, named the “2.0” series, was released in February 2011. This series was released to upgrade some of the original flavors.

Shift is a flavor changing gum in two flavors (Berry to Mint and Citrus to Mint). Because of the two flavors, the packaging for each flavor has two main colors. For Berry to Mint, the package's colors are magenta and light blue; for Citrus to Mint, the colors that are on the package are orange and light green. It is not sold in Canada.

Spark is a variant that comes in three flavors, Kinetic Mint, Kinetic Berry and Kinetic Fruit. One piece contains 25% of the Recommended Daily Allowance of Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12, according to the label.

Due to the release of Stride 2.0, the original Stride ‘1.0’ flavors that were upgraded have ceased production. They are as follows:

Mystery Flavor '1.0'

Stride was available only in the United States until January 2008, when the Spearmint, Sweet Peppermint and Forever Fruit flavors were made available in Canada. Most flavors are now available in Canada.

In Europe, some Stride flavors are being sold under the Trident Senses brand, namely the Winterblue 2.0 (sold as Mint Breeze), the Forever Fruit 2.0 (sold as Tropical Mix) and the Sweet Peppermint 2.0 (sold as Rainforest Mint and recolored to green), as well as the Mega Mystery, sold as itself. The packaging is a little more elaborate than the traditional Stride box, with the exception of the Mega Mystery which remains the same. Some other flavors have been released, but they don't relate to any Stride flavors apart from some Shift flavors.

The Stride Mnemonic 'S' and package was created by a design and branding firm All packages of Stride include the Stride Mnemonic ’S’ except for Mega Mystery, which replaces the ’S' with a question mark (‘?’) on the front of the packaging. In 2014, the S was redesigned and is only on Spearmint, Peppermint, Winterblue, Nonstop Mint, Stride Spark Kinectic Mint and Fruit, and Sour Patch. Sour Patch is sold in three flavours: Lime, Red Berry, and Orange.

Swedish Fish


Swedish Fish is a fish-shaped chewy wine gum candy, originally developed by the Swedish candy producer Malaco in the late 1950s for the U.S. market.

According to the USA distribution packages, the candy is made out of the following ingredients:

One of the ingredients in Swedish Fish is invert sugar, a combination of glucose and fructose. Invert sugar is important in Swedish Fish due to its ability to retain moisture.

Fructose has high solubility, therefore it holds more water and crystallizes less easily. This is why Swedish Fish have a very long shelf life and does not spoil so easily.

Swedish Fish have modified cornstarch which is used primarily to form its shape. It is utilized as a medium in trays when the product is put in them to be molded. In addition, white mineral oil is added to these trays to supplement the starch, prevent the candy from crumbling, and give it a shiny coating.

Carnauba wax is used in Swedish Fish as a coating and gives the candy a waxy texture.

Citric acid gives the Swedish Fish an even longer shelf life.

In Sweden, large amounts of confectionery are sold every year, and a substantial part of it is sold as pick and mix. Wine gums are sold in many different shapes, of which fish is just one. The Swedish Fish candy is marketed under the name "pastellfiskar", literally "pastel fish", and under the Malaco brand among others. The fish shaped candies are also part of various Malaco bags of mixed candy. This candy bag has been sold for many years and is still a favorite among Swedes.

Today the Swedish Fish consumed in North America are made in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and Turkey by Mondelēz International. In Canada, Swedish Fish are distributed under Cadbury's Maynards brand.

Trident (gum)

Trident is a brand of sugar-free chewing gum. It was introduced by Cadbury in the United Kingdom. In many other European countries, Trident is branded as Stimorol gum; it is generally the same as Trident.

When artificial sweeteners became widespread in the early 1960s, the formula was changed to use saccharin instead of sugar, and Sugar-Free Trident was introduced in 1964 with the slogan "The Great Taste that Is Good for Your Teeth." American Chicle's marketing was one of the first national campaigns to promote dental health through chewing gum.

For years, Trident was promoted with the slogan, “Four out of five dentists surveyed recommend sugarless gum for their patients who chew gum.” This slogan is believed to have been based on the results of a survey of practicing dentists with either D.D.S. or D.M.D. degrees, apparently conducted in the early 1960s, whose patients included frequent users of chewing gums; the percentage of respondents to the survey whose responses indicated they would make such references to their patients is believed to have been approximately 80%, rounded off to the nearest full percentage point, of the total number of respondents. It became strongly associated with the Trident brand. As of the middle of June 2014, however, Kraft Foods's Cadbury Adams group, whose parent company, Mondelēz International, had become owners of the Trident copyright and patents, was not known to have made any public disclosures of any details about the survey, presumably citing the proprietary nature of the survey data and conclusions as its rationale.

In the early 2000s, "See what Unfolds" became the new slogan for the brand.

Trident gum contains the sugar alcohol xylitol, which is known as a "tooth-friendly" sugar. Use of the chemical has been subject to controversy, as it is highly toxic to dogs.

Original Trident, a soft gum packaged in a unique rectangular shape, is sweetened with xylitol (originally advertised as "Dentec" by the company), a sugar alcohol that reduces plaque and protects teeth against decay associated with dental caries by helping to maintain a neutral pH balance in the mouth. It is also sweetened with sorbitol, Mannitol, Aspartame, Sucralose and Acesulfame potassium.
