Old Style Pilsner was first brewed in 1926 by Fritz Sick at his Sick's Breweries Ltd. in Lethbridge, Alberta. In 1958, Sick's Breweries Ltd., along with the Old Style Pilsner Brand, was bought by Molson Inc.

Old Style Pilsner became available in Ontario in 1992 but only remained available for a few years there. Around May 20, 2013, Old Style Pilsner was reintroduced at The Beer Stores in Ontario, where it is sold in cases of 24 bottles and a variety of pack sizes in cans.

In 2015, Old Style Pilsner was introduced in Quebec, mainly in corner stores and grocery stores like Métro, Loblaws and IGA.

Old Vienna

Old Vienna is a brand of beer bottled by City Brewing, and later, Koch Beverage Company, in the 19th century in Wapakoneta, Ohio. City Brewing was owned by Karl Kolter and his son Charles, who immigrated from Wallhalben, Germany, to Ohio in the mid-19th century. The business was later handed down to Henry Koch, Charles's son-in-law. By the early 20th century the brewery had closed down.

It is now a Canadian produced beer. Old Vienna was brewed by Carling O'Keefe who acquired the rights and recipe after Koch Beverage Company's demise, and through the 1970s and 1980s it was the mainstream lager brand sold by the brewery. It is now produced by Molson Breweries where it is still being sold in Canada and in select markets in border U.S. states. Old Vienna is currently produced in bottles, cans and on draft with a 5% alc./vol. content. For a time in the 1970s and 1980s OV was available in 7 oz. bottles called "OV Splits".

Schooner Lager

Schooner is a regional lager style beer of the eastern Canadian provinces. It has an alcohol content of 5.0% ABV and is brewed at the Oland Brewery in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

First brewed in the 1950s, Schooner beer was named after the famous racing and fishing vessel the schooner Bluenose, A replica schooner, Bluenose II, was built by the Oland family in 1963. The Oland family (not to be confused with the Saint John, New Brunswick relatives who still own and operate Moosehead Brewery) used Bluenose II as both a private yacht and as a promotion for the beer brand. An illustration of the ship is found on the label as well as the cap. The schooner was donated to the Province of Nova Scotia in 1971. The Oland family sold their breweries to Labatt in 1971, and Schooner has since been produced under the InBev umbrella.

Once a popular brand of beer in eastern Canada, Schooner had many memorable advertising campaigns that included such taglines as "The Schooner, the better", "I'd sooner have a Schooner", and "Quaff a Schooner Beer". Although the marketing campaigns have long since ceased, Schooner is still carried by liquor stores across the Maritime provinces.

Steel Reserve

Steel Reserve is an American lager brand owned and produced by Steel Brewing Company, which is owned by Miller. The drink comes in "Black" and "Silver" varieties, also known as "Triple Export Malt Liquor" and "High Gravity Lager", respectively. It is noted for its high alcohol content (typically 8.1% ABV) and low price. It was introduced in 1998.

Steel Reserve is sold in 40 US fl oz (1.2 l) bottles. It also is distributed in 24 US fl oz (710 ml) cans, 22 US fl oz (650 ml) bottles, 16 US fl oz (470 ml) cans in packs of four or six, and 12 US fl oz (350 ml) cans in packs of six or twelve. The 40-ounce, 8.1% ABV variety is widely available throughout the US; however, some states require the beverage to be sold as a diluted 6.0% ABV and in Utah 3.0% ABV within accordance of state law. States with more defined requirements for beer products, such as Tennessee, would sell this beverage in Liquor stores. Steel Brewing company has expanded the Steel Reserve brand by adding four 8.0% ABV flavored options of the popular malt beverage in 16 fl. oz. cans throughout the United States. Flavors (as of 2017), including: BLK Cherry, Hard Pineapple, Spiked Punch, and Spiked Watermelon.

In 2012, Steel Reserve 8.1% ABV received the Gold medal in the category of 'American-Style Premium Lager or Specialty Lager' at the World Beer Cup. Additionally, the american malt liquor style ale has been rated within the 83 percentile earning the good rating by Beeradvocate. While users of the site have accumulated a rating of 60 - poor (2017). Alternatively, Ratebeer has given an accumulative rating of 0 overall and 10 for overall style.

Anheuser-Busch also adopted the "High Gravity" nomenclature, referring to the term specific gravity, a measurement used to quantify the sugars available to produce alcohol in a fermented beverage, which may give an indication of alcohol content, and released Hurricane High Gravity Lager with the same alcohol content, container sizes, and similar price.

Steelback Brewery

imageSteelback Brewery

Steelback Brewery was a Canadian based and owned brewery, located in Tiverton, Ontario, on the shores of Lake Huron.

Steelback Brewery was started in September, 2002 by Frank D'Angelo while looking for expansion space for his juice company, D'Angelo Brands. He found a site in Tiverton, Ontario, for sale by Barry Sherman, founder of Apotex. The facility came with a brewery which D'Angelo had intended to sell, but ultimately decided to start a beer company with the funding of Barry Sherman. It was a wholly owned subsidiary of D'Angelo Brands.

The company's promotional strategy included extensive sponsorship of sporting events and venues, including purchasing naming rights to the Sauble Speedway in Sauble Beach, several community arenas in Toronto, the Grand Prix of Toronto and sponsorship of a Formula One racing team, as well as the Toronto Argonauts.

In 2006, the company purchased the naming rights to the Steelback Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, the new home of the Ontario Hockey League Sault Greyhounds for $1.35 million over 10 years. The company also explored reviving the defunct Ottawa Renegades of the Canadian Football League, under the new name Ottawa Steelback. There was speculation that the bid to resurrect the Ottawa Renegades was nothing more than a publicity stunt, and the offer was subsequently declined by the CFL.

Unibroue

imageUnibroue

Unibroue is a brewery located in Chambly, Quebec, Canada that was started by Serge Racine and Quebec native André Dion. The company was purchased by Sleeman Breweries Ltd. in 2004, which was itself taken over by Sapporo in 2006. The company was incorporated in 1993 and is the first of three microbrewing companies in Greater Montreal area (followed by "Brasseurs RJ" and "McAuslan"), both chronologically and in terms of sale benefits.

Unibroue was founded by business partners André Dion and Serge Racine who had acquired 75% of La Brasserie Massawippi Inc. of Lennoxville in 1990. The two purchased the remainder of the shares at the end of 1991 when they transferred their interest in La Brasserie Massawippi Inc. to Unibroue.

By 1992, La Brasserie Massawippi Inc. became a wholly owned subsidiary of Unibroue. Afterward, it changed its corporate name to Brasserie Broubec Inc. and in July 1993 merged with Unibroue. It was bought by Canadian brewer, Sleeman Breweries Ltd., in 2004. Sleeman, in turn, was purchased in 2006 by Sapporo.

Unibroue makes a wide range of beers, although there is a focus on Belgian-style brews, such as their Maudite ("Damned"), La Fin du Monde ("The End of the World"), and Don de Dieu ("Gift from God"). Most of Unibroue's beers are bottled "on the lees", or containing yeast sediment (or lees). This practice provides additional fermentation, also called bottle-conditioned, after bottling. The result is a beer which ages well if kept in the dark and unrefrigerated, and allows it to be shipped relatively cheaply to international markets. The yeast gives Unibroue beers a cloudy appearance and provides a characteristic element to the taste. On many of their labels, suggested serving temperatures (for example, "better at 12°–14°C") are included.

La Fin du Monde (literally French for "The End of the World" as per the translation on the back of each bottle) is a Belgian-style tripel and bottle conditioned golden ale introduced in July 1994. The name is claimed to derive from the European explorers' belief that they had reached the end of the world when they discovered America.
