"You Don't Know" is the first single from Sisters of Avalon by Cyndi Lauper.

The song is about the wishy-washiness of politicians. Lauper refers to the arrogance of the media in this song, as well as in other songs on the Sisters of Avalon album.

This song contains the word "bullshit" and was not edited out of the UK singles as is typical. While performing on several UK shows, such as Noel's House Party, she skipped the word.

Remixes of the song were made by several producers such as Tony Moran and Junior Vasquez. That led the song to become a big dance hit in the United States and a mainstream hit in the UK.

The video was recorded in Washington Square, New York City in the beginning of September 1996. The little Japanese boy who closes the video is called Grayson. He was hand-picked by Lauper. Grayson is a normal 6-year-old and not a professional child actor. Lauper directed the video herself.

The single is considered a comeback by Lauper after the song's performance on the dance charts and in several countries.
