Winterbourne Chalk Pit is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) based in Winterbourne, Berkshire. It is located within the North Wessex Downs.
The site is 0.1 acres in size. The chalk pit is rich in Macrofossils, particularly belemnites.
The chalk sediments date back to the late Cretaceous period of geological time, about 80 million years ago. The Chalk pit is the only known area containing rocks of this age in the western part of the London Basin.
In 1970 the site was designated a site of special scientific interest (SSSI). In 1981 the site was used as a source of evidence in an important geological paper by Jarvis and Woodroof.
