William L. Utley


William L. Utley (July 10, 1814 – March 4, 1887) was an American portrait artist, hotel keeper, politician, and newspaper editor from Racine, Wisconsin.

Utley was born in Monson, Massachusetts and moved to Racine in 1844. He was the commanding officer of the 22nd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry (the "Abolition Regiment") during the American Civil War. He served as Adjutant General of Wisconsin, as well as being a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1851 to 1852 and the Wisconsin State Senate from 1861 to 1862. He died of diabetes at his home in Racine.
