Wilhelmina International Inc. (NASDAQ: WHLM) represents and manages models, celebrities, artists, athletes and content creators worldwide. The agency is one of the oldest and largest full-service model management companies in the world, with offices in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, London, and Chicago.
Wilhelmina is recognized throughout the fashion industry for its diverse talent. Since the reign of its iconic leader, Wilhelmina has remained committed to the belief that beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors. The agency stands at the forefront of discovering and redefining beauty in modern times worldwide.
Wilhelmina Cooper
In 1958, Wilhelmina Cooper attended modeling school in Chicago, officially joined the Models Bureau, and began her modeling career one year later.
When Wilhelmina visited New York City to launch her modeling career in 1959, she met with famed model executive Eileen Ford and was told she can’t be a model “with those hips.” Ford sent her to Paris to fully immerse herself in one of the world’s most desirable fashion capitols before relocating to New York. Cooper was represented by Ford Models during the peak of her modeling career from 1961-1967.
During the 1960s, Wilhelmina became one of the most sought after and photographed cover models of her time. She graced over 280 magazine covers, and appeared on more covers of U.S. Vogue in less than one decade than any other model.
In 1967, Cooper used her experience as the most photographed model to create an innovative agency built on her intuitive understanding of how to define beauty in the endlessly changing industry. With its founder’s entrepreneurial wit, ingenuity and instinctive prowess, Wilhelmina quickly became a powerful force in fashion and one of the world’s most successful agencies.
Throughout the Years
Over the last five decades, Wilhelmina has continually pushed industry boundaries through global expansion and strategic acquisitions:
In 1978, as models entered the worlds of TV and film, Wilhelmina opened a Los Angeles office to accommodate the changing business.
In 1997/1998, Wilhelmina launched a Celebrity board that now represents emerging musicians, filmmakers, actors and top talent, including Levi Dylan, Hopper Penn, Nick Jonas, Shawn Mendes, Nicki Minaj, Ellar Coltrane, Machine Gun Kelly, and Leona Lewis.
