WiFi Master Key is a free mobile tools app for free WiFi access. The app leverages on the sharing economy, cloud computing, and big data in an attempt to provide users with a safe and free Wi-Fi internet connection shared by Wi-Fi hosts around the world. It is also known as a free wifi access app pioneer in China. WiFi Master Key is operated by LinkSure, a mobile internet company providing free internet and content services. The company's founder and CEO, Chen Danian, was previously COO and co-founder of Shanda Games.
WiFi Master Key was first released in 2012, and by 2016 it became the world’s largest Wi-Fi sharing community with over 900 million users and 520 monthly active users. In terms of combined iOS and Android app downloads, WiFi Master Key is ranked 5th in the world, below WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Facebook Messenger. WiFi Master Key is the 3rd largest software app, below WeChat and Tencent QQ in China.
At the beginning of 2015, LinkSure closed its A round funding of USD 52 million at a billion-dollar valuation, becoming a unicorn (finance) company in the mobile internet industry.
In May 2015, LinkSure bought the domain name wifi.com and established a branch in Singapore to expand its overseas services. As of June 2016, WiFi Master Key’s overseas users have exceeded 80 million, with over 20 million daily active users, covering 223 countries and regions across 5 continents. In 49 countries, including Russia, Brazil, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, they are currently ranked number 1 on the tools section of the Google Play store. According to App Annie’s data, WiFi Master key, as of February 2016, is the world’s 5th most downloaded app on iOS and Google Pay store, coming after WhatsApp Messenger, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram.
As of June 2016, WiFi Master Key reached 900 million users, second only to WeChat and QQ, becoming the largest mobile internet software tool in China. . In the same month, WiFi Master Key also reached 520 million monthly active users, providing over 4 billion daily average connections.
Separately, LinkSure is working with Zhongan Insurance to deploy the WiFi security app for users and hosts to provide additional protection. At the same time, LinkSure is part of the first batch of member companies to enter China Central Government’s Internet Safety Union. It is also the only mobile internet company to be part of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s Internet safety division in China.
