Released as her debut single on March 13, 1983, the song did not chart on the Billboard Hot 100, but it was a hit in dance clubs and had major airplay. The song once appeared in a 2007 episode of Bones. The song still receives airplay on major radio stations in the United States. It reached number 43 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Reggaetón artist Voltio includes a sample of the song in his 2008 song, "Pónmela". A lengthy cut of the song can be heard in the Pónmela music video during the song's break.
