Bruckner is best known for his symphonic works, of which there are 11 symphonies (the last with an unfinished finale), most of them in several versions. He also composed a few other smaller orchestral works (1 overture, 1 symphonic prelude, 1 march and 3 'small orchestral pieces') and sketched another symphony.

Bruckner also composed a considerable amount of choral music.
There are 59 religious works, of which there are 17 large choral works (7 masses, 2 requiems, 1 religious cantata, 5 psalm settings, 1 Te Deum hymn and 1 Magnificat hymn), 40 smaller choral works (16 hymns, 6 antiphons, 6 graduals, 3 settings of the offertorium, 2 chorale, 2 religious elegies, 2 Libera me, 1 litany and 2 other motets), of which a few are in two or three versions, and 2 aequali for three trombones. In addition, Bruckner made sketches for 2 other masses and another requiem.
Bruckner also composed 44 Weltliche Chorwerke (secular choral works), 7 secular cantatas, of which two are in three versions, and about 20 Lieder for voice and piano.

Bruckner’s chamber music includes 1 scherzo for string quartet, 1 string quartet with alternative rondo, 1 string quintet with additional intermezzo, 25 small piano works, and 1 duo for violin and piano.
