The Wellington City mayoral election, 1950 was part of the New Zealand local elections held that same year. In 1950, elections were held for the Mayor of Wellington plus other local government positions including fifteen city councillors. The polling was conducted using the standard first-past-the-post electoral method. Incumbent Mayor Will Appleton did not seek a third term. He was succeeded by his deputy, Robert Macalister.
While Frank Kitts did not win the mayoralty, he and five others were the first Labour candidates elected as councillors since 1941.
