Named after Revolutionary War hero General "Mad" Anthony Wayne, Waynesville is located near the old Post Road which is the dividing line between the counties of Brantley and Glynn.
Waynesville was the county seat of Wayne County for several periods in the mid-1840s. In 1873, the county seat was moved to Jesup. In 1920 this portion of Wayne County became part of Brantley County.
