In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, the verme is a type of monster.
The verme first appeared in the original AD&D first edition Monster Manual II (1983).
The verme appeared in the second edition of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons under the "fish" entry in Flames of the Falcon (1990), and is reprinted in the Monstrous Compendium Annual Two (1995).
A verme is a very large fish that inhabits great rivers, or may venture into saltwater. A verme prefers warm water with an abundance of food, such as fish, reptiles, cattle, humans, or virtually anything else. A verme resembles a giant catfish, but with large, thick, slime-covered scales and numerous, needle-like teeth. It is pale yellow along its underside, with the flanks shading from dark brown to a mottled green and brown back. Although a verme is long, it is flattish along its belly and wider than it is high, enabling it to lurk on the bottom and swim in relatively shallow water. A verme's head is heavily scaled and very bony. A verme swallows prey whole – even that as large as a water buffalo.
