Hi, this is Crisco 1492. I'd like to thank you for taking time to read my profile, and wish you success with any articles you write in the future.

My screen name is of a direct reference to Christopher Columbus, whom I admire as an explorer, but there are also other symbolic meanings. The first part, Crisco is a derivation of not only the first name of one of the first European explorers of America, but also my own. Another little reference is to the shortening, which symbolizes to me all of the food that I enjoy so much. The second portion, 1492, is a direct reference to the year Columbus first travelled to the Americas.

Since January 2013 I have been selecting the picture of the day. My philosophy regarding this section of the main page is:

I was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada on 15 March 1989. I graduated from J. L. Forster Secondary School in 2006. After graduation, I was one of the Rotary Youth Exchange students from the Windsor district (6400 at the time). I hold a bachelor's degree in Indonesian literature from Sanata Dharma University (doing my undergraduate thesis on Sindhunata's Putri Cina) and an M.A. from Gadjah Mada University (with my thesis on the adaptation of novels to films in the Dutch East Indies). I'm now undertaking a doctorate program, again at Gadjah Mada.
