Urdorf is a municipality in the district of Dietikon in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland, located in the Limmat Valley (German: Limmattal).
Urdorf has an area of 7.6 km2 (2.9 sq mi). Of this area, 32.2% is used for agricultural purposes, while 32.6% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 34.5% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.7%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains). In 1996[update] housing and buildings made up 25.9% of the total area, while transportation infrastructure made up the rest (8.8%). Of the total unproductive area, water (streams and lakes) made up 0.4% of the area. As of 2007[update] 26.2% of the total municipal area was undergoing some type of construction. In 1931 Niederurdorf and Oberurdorf were excluded from the Zürich District to form the municipality of Urdorf.
Urdorf has a population (as of 31 December 2015) of 9,673. As of 2007[update], 18.9% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. As of 2008[update] the gender distribution of the population was 49.3% male and 50.7% female. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 1.4%. Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (85.7%), with Italian being second most common ( 3.6%) and Serbo-Croatian being third ( 2.1%).
