Upper Fruitland (Navajo: Doo Alkʼahii) is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Juan County, New Mexico, USA. The population was 1,664 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Farmington Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Upper Fruitland is located at 36°43′18″N 108°17′51″W / 36.72167°N 108.29750°W (36.721801, -108.297400).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.8 square miles (20.2 km²), of which, 7.5 square miles (19.4 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²) of it (3.98%) is water.
Upper Fruitland should not be confused with Fruitland, New Mexico which is located across the San Juan River. This is especially true since Upper Fruitland is inside the boundaries of the Navajo Reservation but Fruitland is not.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,664 people, 431 households, and 374 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 222.6 people per square mile (85.9/km²). There were 468 housing units at an average density of 62.6 per square mile (24.2/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.78% Native American, 0.96% White, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.18% from other races, and 1.02% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.44% of the population.
