The University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC) is a public post-secondary school in the U.S. state of Oregon. The first journalism class was offered in 1901, and in 1912 the Department of Journalism was formed. The department was elevated to the School of Journalism in 1916. The SOJC is located in Allen Hall on the University of Oregon's Eugene campus. The school is one of 112 journalism schools in the U.S. accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications. The school also runs the George S. Turnbull Portland Center in Portland. SOJC organizes the annual Payne Award for Ethics in Journalism.
