The University Athletic Association of the Philippines Football tournament is held during the second semester of the school year (December-April).

The tournament has three divisions: men, women and boys. As of season 76 (2013–14), seven out of the eight member universities field a team in the men's division and five in the women's division. While in the boys division, four member universities field a team: the Ateneo de Manila University, the De La Salle University, the Far Eastern University and the University of Santo Tomas.

Teams face each other in a double round-robin elimination format, with 3 points awarded for a win, 1 for a draw, and 0 for a loss.

In the men's division, the top four teams by the end of the second round will advance to the semi-final round. The number one seeded team will face the fourth-seeded team, while the second and third seeded teams will face each other. The first and second seeded teams will have a twice-to-beat advantage. The winners in the semifinal round face each other in a best-of-three Finals series. In the event that a team sweeps all the games during the eliminations, it will automatically qualify for the Finals with a thrice-to-beat advantage. The second, third and fourth seeded teams will face each other in a step-ladder format. The winner will face the number one seeded team in the Finals.

However, starting Season 77 after Adamson University fielded its Men's Football Team, the format changed into a one game match in the semi finals and the finals. The first four team will qualify in the playoffs where the first seed will face the fourth seed while the 2nd and 3rd seed will face each other in one game. The winner in both playoffs will face each other in a one game Finals.

In the women's and boys' divisions, the top two teams at the end of the second round will face each other in a 1 game Final. In the event that a team sweeps all the games during the eliminations, that team will have a twice-to-beat advantage in the Finals.
