The Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan is the state body responsible for the implementation of scientific and technical policy. It was founded in 1951. It was closed under president Saparmurat Niyazov, and reopened again by his successor, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.

The Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan has three departments [1]

1922 - Turkmen Scientific Commission.

1925 - Scientific Research Institute - study of history, geography, literature and art.

1926 - The Academic Council (The State Academic Council) under the People's Commissariat of Education

1928 - The Cult of the Turkmen.

1932 - The Turkmen Scientific Research Institute.

1936 - Resolution of the Central Executive Committee and the Council of People's Commissars of the Turkmen Soviet Union of the Republic of March 31, 1936 May is divides the Institute into: Institute of History and Language and Literature, under the Central Executive Committee, and the Council of People's Commissars of the Turkmen Soviet Union Republics.
