Tu Sooraj Main Saanjh Piyaji (English: You're The Sun, I'm The Twilight, Beloved) is a 2017 Indian television soap opera that airs on Star Plus. The series stars Rhea Sharma and Avinesh Rekhi and is the sequel to the series Diya Aur Baati Hum. Neelu Vaghela, Ashok Lokhande, and Kanika Maheshwari reprise their roles from that series. It started airing at 7 p.m. IST from 24th July 2017 replacing Saath Nibhaana Saathiya. Before, it aired at 1 p.m. IST in Star Plus Dopahar since 3rd April 2017
The story is based on the life of children of Sooraj and Sandhya featuring the life of Kanak Sooraj Rathi (Rhea Sharma), daughter of Sooraj and Sandhya Rathi. She is living in a girls hostel while completing her BBA Bhabho ignores Kanak because according to her, Kanak is the reason for the death of Sooraj-Sandhya. Kanak is always disheartened because of Bhabho's ignorance. Again the family has been broken down into two because of Vikram's illegitimate child Pavan. Kanak is initially unaware of this break in their family. Kanak is a scardy cat. In spite of being afraid of travelling alone, especially at night, she does travel, but faints inside the house bus. The next morning she wakes up to find herself with a small child on boat. The child, Shiv talks to her about how she got here and about his brother who is shown doing Surya Namaskar. Shiv's brother, Uma Shankar comes into the boat along with some married couples.Uma is a very sanskari and religious doctor. Uma talks to them about the seven qualities of wife in hinduism whereas Kanak is shown disagreeing every thoughts of his. She leaves saying Shiv that his brother is a chavinist and whichever girl marries him their marriage will be a disaster.
Amid with the family drama in Rathi family, Uma and Kanak seems to meet indirectly everywhere they go, but they never see each other. Uma gets clues of the girl having the smell of sandalwood which is also one of the meaning of the name Kanak. Bhabho gets Kanak's marriage fixed to Manav, an NRI from London, to which Kanak heartily yet confusedly agrees much to the dismayal of everyone else in the family. Soon Kanak reaches the same hotel as Uma to meet Manav where she enters Uma's room due to misunderstanding and wears as ring which was suppose to be for Uma's whoever would-be bride. Uma starts getting attracted to this girl having the smell of sandalwood. Uma finds his younger brother's bride who were married in childhood in Pushkar, Payal. Payal and Ved were initially shown falling for each other. Uma asks Payal's parents to give Payal to her in-laws house. Initially they dejected the offer saying Aditya, Uma's brother has run away and never been seen since 4 years. Uma wants the marriage to happen and gona is done with Payal's photo. While Kanak, when got to know this, tries to convince Payal's parents not to agree with the marriage. Here the vast difference in thoughts of Uma and Kanak are shown. Uma soon returns to his village, Ladno. He keeps thinking of the sandalwood girl everytine. Here a girl named Palumi who has been working in Uma's house for several years is shown having feelings of love for Uma. Uma's younger sister Suman supports Palumi where Uma's Masisa is aware of Palumi's feelings but is unconcerned about her love. Soon Kanak gets to know that someone with a mustache from Ladno stole Bhabho's shop from her. She vows to fight for Bhabho and thus try to win her love. She gets to Ladno soon after Uma, and Uma seems to be aware of that due to the fragrance of sandalwood. On the day of Shivratri Uma and Kanak come face to face and Uma vows to marry Kanak even if it is against her will. Uma Shankar Toshniwal (Avinesh Rekhi)|forcibly marries Kanak and the marriage is portrayed as the indication of God.
