Trial by Fire: Greatest and Latest is an album by Bachman–Turner Overdrive. It contains new studio-recordings of old material, four new original recordings and one new cover song. It is the last album of any form that BTO produced with newly written material. It was not released on a large scale in the United States and is a hard to find album. And just as the past three Bachman–Turner Overdrive albums, it failed to break any charts nationally or internationally.
The song "The House of the Rising Sun" on this album came about originally because BTO played at an outdoor concert in Sturgis, South Dakota for a biker event with Eric Burdon of The Animals also on the bill. Burdon failed to play the Animals' smash hit "The House of the Rising Sun," leaving the audience chanting, "Play 'House'! Play 'House'!" BTO had played the song on a semi-regular basis a few years before, and were told if they wanted to go home that night, they had better play it. Since that time, it became a favorite at BTO concerts.
