Toronto Fashion Incubator

The Toronto Fashion Incubator (TFI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and nurturing Canadian fashion designers and entrepreneurs.

TFI is the world's first official fashion incubator, established in 1987 by the City of Toronto. Since its launch, the TFI model has been adopted by over thirty global cities including London, Paris, New York, Milan, Amsterdam, Melbourne and Chicago. For almost three decades, TFI has fostered many of Canada’s most celebrated talents such as Sunny Fong of Project Runway Canada fame, Joeffer Caoc, David Dixon, Sid Neigum, Todd Lynn, Arthur Mendonça, Line Knitwear and Smythe.

The incubator affords support services for members and affiliates, and resident designers have their own studio workshops and can use the shared production area, which includes a cutting area, sewing machines and a computerized pattern-making system, as well as access to the library. The incubator provides mentoring by established designers, and also helps emerging designers to make media connections.

The TFI is governed by a volunteer board of directors, advised by an advisory committee and staffed by the executive director, office mManager and office assistant. Some honorary board members include Suzanne A. Rogers, Jeanne Beker, and Nicholas Mellamphy of the Hudson's Bay Company.Susan Langdon has been the executive director for the Toronto Fashion Incubator for 21 years.
