Torngat is a Montreal indie band and instrumental trio established in 2001.
Torngat's popularity increased with the 2005 release of their EP La Rouge. During the spring of 2006 and after increasing demand, Torngat toured Eastern Canada. Torngat signed a two-album deal with Montreal experimental label Alien8 Recordings. The band recorded a full-length album You Could Be, which was released on September 19, 2007. Amato used to be horn player for Arcade Fire, and is a member of The Luyas and Bell Orchestre. The band named themselves for the Torngat Mountains because the mountains' untamed nature matched the band's open and improvisational style.
All members interchange instruments throughout their shows.
