The Selector is a weekly two-hour radio show, which is sponsored by the British Council. Originally launched in 2001, The Selector is an international showcase for the best new music the United Kingdom has to offer, covering a variety of genres from indie, dubstep, folk, soul, hip hop and more. The show features interviews, guest DJ mixes and exclusive live sessions from some of the UK’s most exciting artists. The Selector presents an overview of fresh British music. It avoids many mainstream acts, in favour of emerging talent and underground styles. The show reflects the brilliance and diversity of British music, promoting the musical culture of modern Britain to an international audience. The underlying aim of The Selector is to challenge people's perceptions of the UK and to showcase the wealth of creativity and innovation the UK has to offer.
Since 2009 The Selector has been presented by global DJ & TV/Radio presenter Goldierocks. From the show’s launch until June 2009 the show was presented by Andrea Oliver.
With an audience estimated to be in excess of 3 million listeners, The Selector is syndicated to over 40 countries around the world including Mexico, China, Colombia, Israel, Poland, Malawi, Hungary, Indonesia and Bulgaria.
Each edition of The Selector includes a guest DJ mix and the show regularly features interviews and live sessions from top British talent. Previous guests include Tinie Tempah, Metronomy, Ghostpoet, Jessie Ware, Foreign Beggars, Egyptian Hip Hop, Chvches, Errors, Daughter, Smoke Fairies and Dog Is Dead. The Selector is produced by Folded Wing, an independent production company, based in Clerkenwell, London and was previously produced by Somethin' Else until 2010. The show is put together by former BBC producer John Cranmer. Folded Wing director Karen Pearson acts as executive producer.
