The Handmaid's Tale is an upcoming American television series based on the book of the same name by Margaret Atwood. It has been ordered by streaming service Hulu with a straight-to-series order, with the production beginning in late 2016.
It will premiere on April 26, 2017.
In April 2016, it was announced Elisabeth Moss would star in the series, which received a straight-to-series order on Hulu, based upon the novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood, created by Bruce Miller, who will serve as an executive producer alongside Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears and Warren Littlefield. Atwood will serve as consulting producer. In June 2016, Reed Morano was announced to direct the series. In July 2016, Samira Wiley, Max Minghella and Ann Dowd joined the cast of the series. In August 2016, Joseph Fiennes, Madeline Brewer and Yvonne Strahovski joined the cast. In September 2016, O.T. Fagbenle and Amanda Brugel joined the cast. In October 2016, Ever Carradine joined the cast. In January 2017, Alexis Bledel joined the cast.
Filming on the series took place in Toronto from September 2016 to February 2017.
