At the end of WW2 thousands of former P.O.W.s, repatriated from Germany, were sent to Siberia by Stalin, to be ‘re-educated.’ The Edge is set in one such labour camp, on the edge of a dense forest. Despite being a war hero, Ignat, a disgraced train engineer, is sent to the camp as punishment for destroying the fastest train in the Soviet Union during a reckless race. A proud and overbearing man, he manages to turn the entire camp against himself after he discovers a German woman hiding in the forest and refuses to hand her over to the authorities.
