The Death Ray is a graphic novel by American cartoonist Daniel Clowes that first appeared in issue #23 of Clowes's comic book Eightball in 2004, and then as a standalone book in 2011.
The story takes place in Chicago in the 1970s and is about the skinny Andy who discovers that smoking gives him super strength. He arms himself with a ray gun and sets out to deal justice on those that had bullied him. The superhero storyline was unusual for Clowes, known more for low-key stories about ordinary, if neurotic, personalites.
In 2012, The Death Ray won a Harvey Award for Best Graphic Album of Previously Published Work.
